Our story

Built where the work happens.

A rural general practice in the Northern Territory. A practice manager who needed better tools. A product built from the inside out.

Where it came from

In late 2023, a rural community in the Northern Territory lost its only medical centre. A new general practice opened in its place, serving around 7,500 patients across five rural communities with a small team and no room for wasted effort.

The practice manager who built Haldel wasn't trying to start a software company. They were trying to run a clinic without the right tools. The admin work that keeps a general practice running — stock management, contractor payments, recalls, document routing, and accreditation — was spread across spreadsheets, paper systems, and workarounds. It worked, mostly. But it was fragile, time-consuming and dependent on one person knowing where everything was.

Why it was built

Clinical software handles the patient-facing side of general practice well. It does not handle the operational layer: the work that happens around and between appointments. That gap is where practice managers live.

Haldel was built to fill that gap. It does not replace clinical software; it works alongside it. Each module started as a real problem in a real clinic: a process that took too long, a record that kept going missing, a calculation that had to be done by hand every fortnight. We used every module in a working general practice before offering it to anyone else.

What it means

The name Haldel comes from the Old English word "hald", meaning shelter, keep, and hold safe. That is what a well-run practice does for its patients, its staff and its community. It should also do the same for the people who run it.

Haldel is in the final stages of development. We are building it carefully, in close conversation with practice managers, because the people who do this work every day know what it needs to do.

Haldel was founded by a practice manager with 14 years' service in the Royal Australian Air Force, where systems, discipline and reliability are not optional.

Haldel is developed by Remote Territory Healthcare Pty Ltd.
